Job description
The Legal Manager is expected to:
- Provide leadership, manage staff and resources in the Legal department
- Provide and interpret legal information and disseminate appropriate legal requirements to staff.
- Review and advise management on legal implication of internal policies and procedures
- Continuously monitor compliance with statutory obligations and advise management accordingly
- Assess legal implications that needs to be brought to the management’s attention
- Prepare, review and modify contractual instruments to support various business activities
- Negotiate, review and draft documentations for business transactions
- Prepare monthly and quarterly report of the department for executive management meetings
- Provide continuous leadership, supervision, training and development of the Legal department staff to ensure an effective and motivated team
- Liaise with relevant departments to ensure that where legal risks have been identified, appropriate course actions are taken.
- Liaise with the HR department in conducting performance appraisal to ensure competency gaps are addressed.
- Provide legal protection and risk management advice to management especially on contract management
Desired Skills and Experience
- A minimum of Bachelors degree or its equivalent in the Arts or Social Sciences
- 5-7 years post call inclusive of NYSC. At least 4 of these years in a good corporate commercial legal firm or in a good corporate legal department.
- A professional and commercial approach to legal affairs
- Confidence and articulation with capital market knowledge
- Managerial skills for supervision and management of staff and company assets
